I’m hugely proud to be a board member of Healthy &Natural Chicagoland and as of Tuesday night, a supporter of three very worthy non-profits in the Chicagoland area focusing on food, health and nutrition. Greater Chicago Food Depository, operates a food distribution and training center providing food for hungry people while striving to end hunger in our community. Blessings in a Backpack sends schoolkids without enough food on weekends home on Fridays with backpacks full of satisfying and nutritional food. Purple Asparagus educates children, families and the community about eating that’s good for the body and the planet.
Our mission at HNC is to “serve as a catalyst for collaboration, innovation, education and growth among Chicagoland businesses providing products and services that cultivate better consumer health and wellness”. So it was right on mission to do this fundraiser at Carnivale in Chicago last night, where 45 people rode out nasty weather and poor roads to participate in our community-building activity, where in addition to getting a portion of proceeds, our non-profits also served as guest bartenders and earned100% of the tip money. In addition, industry icons Kantha Shelke and Ivan Wasserman helped out slinging drinks as celebrity bartenders. Conversation was engaging, our non-profit partners discussed their programs and how to get engaged and for HNC, our 4th event continued to help people connect, learn and dive into in the health and wellness conversation in our city.
We’re excited about our upcoming programming that will provide a mix of education, networking and stimulating dialogue on topics such as natural products disruption, the microbiome, the plant-based food movement and all things CBD. Combining that with the chance to interact with healthy food, beverage and supplement industry members, dietitians, nutritionists and health coaches, food tech, food service and restaurant folks, we’ve really got something exciting going.
Join us in February! Details will be posted on the Healthy & Natural Chicagoland website soon.
